Horse Racing

The Boyne Valley is famous for the wonderful horses it produces, so where else would you go to the races!

Just a short 10 min drive from Slane Village, Navan Racecourse is now one of the most modern venues in the country and with a host of restaurants, bars, a coffee shop and children’s areas, there is something to suit all ages. Whether you are an avid racegoer or completely new to racing, you are guaranteed to enjoy the friendly atmosphere, thrilling live action and wonderful facilities at Navan.

Each year the Dowth Point to Point horse racing event takes place, just a 10min drive from Slane. Sitting on 420 acres along the banks of the Boyne River, the Lands at Dowth host a wealth of Neolithic and medieval archaeology. It is part of the Brú na Bóinne Unesco World Heritage Site. With something for the whole family, including dog shows, market stalls and bouncing castles, you’re guaranteed a great day out!

If you don’t mind travelling a little further afield, Fairyhouse Racecourse is one of Ireland’s premier horse racing venues, home to the Boylesports Irish Grand National held every Easter Monday. It’s only a 30min drive from Slane and promises an action-packed day out for the whole family.
